Metal, tile, or shingle: what should you compare?
Compare the look you want, the upkeep each product needs, and the work required to put it on your home. Ask the contractor to explain the actual products being offered, including what changes underneath the roof covering.
What kind of metal roof are you being offered?
Metal roofing comes in several forms: panels with raised seams, panels with visible fasteners, and products shaped like shingles or tiles. Ask which product is proposed and why it fits your home.
Will a metal roof change rain noise or indoor heat?
Ask about the whole roof and the rooms below it. Insulation, attic space, ceilings, and the chosen roofing product all belong in the conversation. A material name alone cannot predict how your home will feel.
How will you care for the new roof?
Ask for the proposed product’s written care instructions, the contractor’s recommended inspection approach, and a contact for problems. Keep those details with your warranty so you know what to do after the work is finished.
