Florida Metal Roof Guide · HOMEOWNER GUIDANCE

Metal, tile, or shingle: what should you compare?

Compare the look you want, the upkeep each product needs, and the work required to put it on your home. Ask the contractor to explain the actual products being offered, including what changes underneath the roof covering.

What this means for your project

Start by describing what you like and dislike about your existing roof. Metal comes in different panel and formed-product systems; tile and shingle options also vary. A material comparison should identify the actual proposed products and their documented installation requirements. A claim about one product should not become a promise about every roof in that category. Ask how transitions, penetrations, ventilation, and existing roof conditions would be addressed with each option.

Roofing words used here

Roof system or assembly
The roofing materials and the way they are installed together, including panels, layers underneath, and attachments.
Openings and flashing
Vents, skylights, and similar features interrupt the roof surface. Flashing helps direct water away from those areas and roof joints.

Questions worth taking with you

  • Write down two priorities and one concern about your current roof.
  • Ask for the actual product or system name behind each option.
  • Confirm what existing components would remain and what would change.
  • Request the maintenance and warranty documents for the proposed products.

Which tradeoff would change your decision?

Use questions about your metal roof options to record the details and unanswered questions. The result is available before you decide whether to contact EaseRoofing.
